I inherited a Series D 4x5 camera from my dad, SN 184199. He acquired it in the early '50s, in trade for a Series B camera that his brother bought him when my dad returned from service. I'm trying to narrow down the age range of the camera, if anyone can assist. Thanks in advance.

184199 was in a block of 4x5 RB Ser. D serial numbers 184162-184361 issued 5/25/1934. The next block of 4x5 RB Ser. D serial numbers was issued 11/15/1934.

Your father's camera was probably made between those dates.

Thanks, Dan. Much appreciated. My dad used the camera between 1953, when my sister and I were born, and 1957; the negatives abruptly stop then, most likely because we were moving too fast, and in different directions, for him. I asked him for years to teach me how to use the camera, but to no avail.
