Hi All,

I bought a 4x5 graflex a while back at a thrift shop that had a few holders with it with the black side out. I opened 1 holder and figured out that it was Royal Pan 4141 film based upon the notch codes and then tried to develop 4 sheets using a paterson tank and the taco method.

I thought the taco method would be easier than 120 film but between arranging 4 tacos in the patterson tank then getting the center tube in and aligned right was a royal pain in the backside.

It took a while to get right and the developing came out. I'm not sure the etiquette about developing and sharing other's photos but here's an image

Here's my dilemma, the second holder had pics of a young boy without a shirt on. Nothing pornographic but the boy's facial expression didn't sit well with me. Here's the image of his face, you can't tell what he is wearing other than jeans in this photo.

I'm curious if there are more landscape images and to figure out what timeframe the images were taken but I really don't want to see something disturbing.

What would you do? develop them alll? pull the dark slides and let negatives over expose?[/url]

You are a true gentleman. In this day of sharing anything and everything online you paused to sort out right from wrong. I work with a great deal of old images and motion pictures and spend a fortune on copyright searches. Here goes a very rough outline:

(i) everything published before 1923 is in the public domain owing to copyright expiration.
(ii) works published without a copyright notice between 1923 and 1977 are in public domain owing to a failure to comply with required formalities.
(iii) works published without a copyright notice, and without subsequent registration within five years , between 1978 and March 1, 1989 are in public domain owing to a failure to comply with required formalities; and
(iv) works published with notice between 1923 and 1963, and not renewed are in the public domain due to copyright expiration.

The trouble is your "works" were never published (released) and the "Intellectual Property" aspect may be belong to the original creator. Your photos are considered "Orphan Works" (unknown owner) which are routinely used by almost everyone although someone could claim ownership. Their claim would be extremely week in my opinion.

I am not sure if this helps you out or not. You definitely can develop the negatives. Sharing them is up to you. I enjoyed viewing them. The internet is full of photos used without permission and many of them are copyrighted.

Hi Folks,

I'm not worried about the landscape pic but the one of the boy bothers me.

I've decided to pull the dark slides an ruin any image that may be contained on the remaining film holders. I will also pull the image of the boy down from the internet so that link won't work anymore.
