I just got a nifty Ilex Wide Field Paragon 65/8 for super cheap on a well-known (infamous?) auction site. It's a beautiful lens and it seems to foucs to infinity on my 3x4 speed! It was cheap because it came in a funky Ilex #1 electronic shutter. I made up a new lensboard and for now I'm using my focal plane shutter. (I'll post about the results when I develop the film.)
I was thinkin' I might like to use this on my century so either I have to build a shutter control box or find a mechanical Ilex #1 shutter. This puppy covers 4x5 with no movements so I might get a Graphic View. Anybody ever seen an Ilex #1 shutter?
I think I can build a shutter control box out of a 555 timer chip but I use my graphics to get away from batteries... |

| Measure. And pray.
I once bought what turned out to be an Ilex 65/8 in an electronic shutter not engraved Ilex and it turned out to an almost direct fit in a #00 Compur. The Compur needed to be machined a little to get the right cell spacing. Remember that Ilex shutter sizes don't correspond to Compur/Prontor/Copal.
Good luck, have fun,

Yep. These elements almost fit nicely in an old supermatic I had with a bad 127 Ektar. But the thread wasn't quite right and the shutter blades looked TOO close to the rear inner element. So my search for an Ilex #1 mechanical shutter has begun. I've been told to look for an older Searchie(?) fingerprint camera!
Funny name for a fingerprint camera, but it's for real! Folks are still around, google 'em... |

[/quote]Sirchie. They turn up from time to time on eBay, often with Wollensak lenses in Rapax. Good luck. |
