The Rapid 800 shutter I'm using on my 2 x 3 Pacemaker Speed has an annoying problem. The flash triggers when cocking the shutter as well as when firing. Is this normal for these, or is it something that can be fixed? The shutter works great otherwise and I'd rather not have to get something different at this time.

Without tearing mine apart, I want to say this is normal.
I know my Xenar in a Synchro Compur keeps the contacts closed until you cock the shutter. Despite what all the psychologists say, negative re-enforcement is a very powerful learning tool--after having only two #5 flash bulbs go off in my hand, I learned to cock the shutter before changing the bulb!
I suppose a good Clean Lube and Adjust might solve the problem, but I'd rather spend the $50 on bulbs and film and just remember to cock the shutter before you put the bulb in. |
