Ok, do I need to get a new distance scale every time I put on a new lens! and if I do does it have to be calibrated to the range finder? I have the crown graphic with the top mounted range finder (1955). Please help im getting more and more confused. |

Well, if you want to rely on the focusing scale for any reason, e.g. flash setting calculations, you need a new scale for each lens. Obviously, operation of the camera does not REQUIRE a new scale for each.
For each lens, installation of a new set of infinity stops is also required [unless you are going to abandon the old lens and its stops, which can then be moved to the new position. Once the stops are in place, the old focusing scale won't match up anymore. As you can see, it wasn't a simple job for the average user to perform. Since there were so many cameras around [and repairmen to perform CLAs and repairs on them], it was routine to just get it done locally in most urban locations.
The scales were carefully matched to the exact FL of the lens used. I can give you the number of the scale if you give me the exact FL.
