|
|
I got my new Graphic view in the mail today.
It has 3 lensboards
The recessed board has a hole that is to small for my 127mm (not that I need it) Just a size comparasion.
and 2 standards. both holes are too big for my
127mm 135mm and 203mm (I think all the lenses would use the same hole)
Do I have to buy a lens board for this camera? Or will any standard lens board work?
What size should I be looking for?
thanks!

I found that the Graphic "C" lensboards from my Anniversary Speed Graphic fit my Graphic View camera. I've seen both types on eBay and one that was an adapter board for a Graphic View to accept the metal type of Speed Graphic boards.

Hi Fishhead...
I just made a lensboard for my Graphic View 11 out of a 1/8" thick high density particle board from Home Depot. I cut the board 4"x4" exactly and had to size it down about .005" on each side to fit well. On the backside, I glued 4 strips 1/8" thick by 1/4" wide - 3/16" from each side and 5/16 from the bottom. I had to slightly taper the bottom to fit inside the Lensboard Strip - and chamfer the backside 1/16 x 45 degrees. It was easy to cut a hole thru for the lens, mine required a 34.6mm dia.(1.362")- then spray painted both sides flat black. Works great!

Are there any other materials suitable for making ones own lensboards? I'd rather not use particle board. I'm thinking of a species of hardwood. Could something like oak, maple, or any other species be planed thin enough? |

ABS plastic and black acrylic are good materials for boards. Acrylic is more rigid but britle, when cutting it may shatter or melt back together if the saw is running too fast or the router bit is set too deep. Sanding gets rid of the shinness on the back side. Fisished product is equal to aluminum baords for general use.

Hi, Fishhead:
I'm writing because I had a related problem. I bought a lens at B&H but it wouldn't fit any of the lensboards that came with the camera.
It turns out that Wisner lensboards fit perfectly. I just bought a new Copal 1. Problem solved.
My impression is that the Graphic View II lensboards are nonstandard.

There really isn't a standard. GV boards are 4" square, as are Annys, Orbits, Kodak Master View and the grey Calumet. But time and production variances take their toll.
Kodak with their 5x7 2Ds use 4.25" square. Deardorff used a standard size 6x6 but rounded the edges to reduce cracked corners.
For my "need a lensboard in a hurry" I use 1/4" baltic birch plywood. |

Are you saying the lens wouldn't fit the board or the boards wouldn't fit the camera? If you're saying the lens wouldn't fit the boards you have then it's because they have the wrong hole. Blank boards can be drilled to whatever you need. If you're saying you got a wisner board to fit the camera then it's pretty obvious the board is fairly standard. You've got a board from a different maker to fit. |

Yes, I'm saying the lens wouldn't fit the board. I don't know enough about resources for getting a blank board and drilling it; it was an easy solution to get a Wisner board with a #1 hole. It's an off-the-shelf solution.
I think its also important to note that the #1 Graphic lens board it not the right size for a Copal #1 shutter.
