Hi,
What was the last edition of the book? I have the 1940, first edition, second printing coming, but I have a 59 Crown.
Thanks,

11th edition, 1958, dark blue cover, ('boards' to the trade people) much thinner than the earlier editions, but has more info about the late cameras. Also more expensive.

Was it my imagination (or a faulty memory from too many years past), but wasn't the "Unofficial" 12th Edition a reprint of the 1952 Edition that was printed in 1971.

I think you're right. I saw something on ABE,com that somebody was selling a '71 reprint for 10x what the original was and I asked "why?" They never found the 'reply' button ontheir computer.

Gees, and I was just kidding. So there was a 12th edition, of sorts. I suppose it would have some minor collector's value just in that, but not 10x the original cost...
On the serious side, it sure would be nice if somone wrote a new edition. I suppose minus the ads from gralfex however...

So I hereby nominate Les for the position of editor-in-chief for the new 13th Edition of the Graphic Graflex Photography (with help from the rest of us, of course).
Anyone in favor?

Well, thanks guy, I'm just not sure what Morgan and Morgan would say about using their title. They may want money for it. We may have to change the name to protect the innocent, or poor as the case maybe. |

I'll "second" that nomination and call for a vote (before anyone can back out ).
There's some kind of meaning in there, the 13th edition and no more Graflex company. I'm thinking the cover color on this one would have to be black...

I could be wrong (as is the case more often than not), but I know song titles can not be copyrighted. It's perfectly legal for anyone to name a song exactly the same as anyone elses song. I think book titles are the same. And very often a sub-title is added to differentiate two books.
Seriousness out of the way...
I cast the first offical vote for Les!!!
or is that the second vote???

{shhh} Okay, don't tell anybody but I've been working on just that for over a year, I"m pretty sure book titles are copyrighted, but we don't have to keep the same name.
Last spring I took a web design class and for a final project made a website for the book, but for God's sake don't think for a moment it's anywere near as done as the site implies....I was thinking ahead.
Also don't think that's a real cover either, I did that shot as a mock up and then my digital camera took a 5 foot dive onto concrete before I could shoot a proper cover. Heck the name is still a 'working title'
http://home.twmi.rr.com/lnphoto/hog/home.html
Now you know why I put the "what about wanted" post in the site forum.

Aww Les, I hope we didn't push you into an early announcment? I think we all figured out you were writing the book and that was part of the fun in the nomination and voting
And the site & book look good!
I only request two things. First, you make a mention that Graflex made the Century Universal Since it seems to be an orphan camera. Second, a signed copy! (which I'll gladly pay for)...
Good luck with the writing, and the sales!

Well I can't guarrantee a citation about the Century Universal.
At first I was going to include all cameras with "Graphic" in their name, until I found out there are about 25 models made during the Pre-Speed Graphic era, so now I'm sticking with Crown, Speed,Century and a bit about the Graphic View. I had a shot at a Crown View and beautiful late model Stereo Graphic, but decided I gotta draw the line somewhere.
The second request is certainty.
