I am fixing up a beater 3x4 Super D model. Could anybody recommend a substitute for the velvety material used as the light seal for the area under the release lever? It looks like some kind of heavy duty synthetic velvet, with dense and longish pile. Any advice will be much appreciated!

Have you checked fabric stores in your area?

I think I will have to... Not the best time to go shopping. In the meanwhile, I ordered some fabrics on Amazon, - will report if it's any good. Thanks!

my best guess at this is it's old mohair, which was typical auto upholstery in the dark ages
what i use, is old kodak pack film light trap, it works perfectly
being in the upholstery biz there is nothing ive seen thick enough to replace it, other than loop from velcro, but it's not dens enough. and mohair is well over $250 a yard for the cheap stuff.
