I have a speed graphic with the 135mm F4.7 Graphex lens. I have researched the board, but wanted to confirm I can't sync to a modern strobe unit unless I set it at f-x and shoot on "T". I was hoping for more, guess I will have to look for a more modern lens on the speed graphic board.

I have run few tests at 1/50 but no luck. Thanks - Great site to by the way.

From everything I know about Graphex shutters, you should be able to set it a FX and shoot at 1/50.

Is the flash not synching or not firing?

What was the result of your test? was the flash late or early?

To expand a bit on the answer by Les, the Speed Graphic focal plane shutter will not sync with electronic flash units. The front shutter should sync a modern electronic flash when set to x sync at almost any speed within the range of the shutter.

If you have selected X synch on your Graphex shutter, and are properly connected to your flash, and you get no flash, then the synchronizer is not working. Chances are that the flash contacts are out of adjustment. Unfortunately, these are accessible only by performing a "stage one" tear-down of the shutter---not too difficult, really, but if you want to try it, I'd recommend you get ahold of the manual: item #90026 at http://www.photobooksonline.com/books/manual03.html .

when I tested it seemed to fire as if it was sync'd, but on the film the flash did not expose the film. Only the little bit of available light came out on film. I tested the exposure with my digital and it was right on.

I'm going to try setting it up and looking through the shutter as it fires to see if I can get it to sync properly before I give up. Thanks
