What Dan said. You can improvise a pretty effective spanner with a pair of needle-nose pliers; this would be for retaining rings (also known as "jam nuts" or maybe it's "jamb nuts"?) that have a pair of slots on opposite sides of the ring. Spread the pliers out and fit the points into the slots, one point in each; the rest is obvious. |

Thanks for the help 45PSS and Henry.
I don't have a set of needlenose that fit into the slots on the retaining ring to my liking so I went looking for a spanner.
The one's at the site you posted sure where nice but considering that I will use it very little, I opted for one off e-bay for $16.00
