I have a lens. It says "Dopp-Anastigmat Series III Dagor F = 150mm f1:6.8 C.P. Goerz Berlin No327380".
Can you get some sort of a date from the serial number of German Dagors?

A pity I dont have a appropriate shutter of the same period to be the new home for the lens. I can live without a flash contact on this one. The crunch is whether a old Compur/Compound can have reasonably accurate slow speeds. I don't use colour reversal, just neg.

According to the very sketchy Goerz chronology presented in the VM, not long after 1912.

Old shutters often run slow when received. Nothing that a CLA can't usually correct. If you were in the US I'd suggest you send it to, for example, Carol Miller at Flutot's Camera Repair. Sorry, I'm not aware of shutter repairmen in the UK, its out of my territory.

The big risk in buying an ancient shutter is that back when your lens was new shutter sizes weren't standardized.

Read this section at SK GRIMES on compound shutters.
http://www.skgrimes.com/compound/index.htm

Try cocking/triping the one you have 3 to 4 times then test speed to see if it becomes more accurate.

The lens I have is in a barrel mount at present.
I thought that it would look good in a dial set Compur for example, because it would be of the same period. But only if the chosen shutter would run reliably (after a CLA of course).
Of course i,d have to find a shutter and there's the problem that it may not conform to any standard size.
Given that Grimes would therefore have to machine adapters, perhaps it is better to go for a modern Copal shutter?

This remount can be justified only on sentimental grounds. That is, you should be able to buy a used lens of the same focal length and coverage in working shutter for less than the cost of machining plus a new or overhauled used shutter.
