Seen you-know-where.
Hugo Meyer Wide-Angle Aristostigmat 5 1/4" f9 in a dial-set Ibsor shutter (1-100th + B & T.
Lens Marked "Hugo Meyer Gorlitz-New York" and it looked like the shutter was older than the lens although it did have a appropriate aperture scale.
Any idea about its internal construction and possible coverage? Was this a good, bad or indifferent lens? |

According to the Vade Mecum, the Aristostigmat is a 4 elements in 4 groups double Gauss, covers 100 degrees stopped down. Supposedly a good lens, subject to flare issues if not coated. |

90 degrees coverage stopped down?
That equates to a image circle of 266mm.
Surely not! How much of that 90 degrees coverage is usable?
Dagors were quoted as up to 90 but it is accepted that around 60-62 degrees is actually usable. 60 degrees gives a circle of 154mm.

Interesting if true. The people I know who use f/6.8 Dagors say they get 85 degrees or more of sharp coverage at f/22 and smaller. Perhaps you're thinking of Dagor type f/9 G-Clarons, for which Schneider claims 68 degrees at f/22. |
