I have here an Ilex 7-1/2 inch Anastigmat series 1 lens mounted on a compound Ilex shutter with the speed dial straight up and the cock and trip levers on either side. IT is all black and mounted on an old Seneca 9 field camera.
Any and all info regarding these would be helpful and welcome, whether historical and or technical like proper use of shutter, which needs help. Will be refurbishing for a friend who whishes to shoot protraiture with it in her studio if possible to fit film. (I will list the camera body on large format general topics)
regards,
Stephen

Steven,
Compound shutters may have a lever or dial that has T, B, M or simular settings only. Set to T or M do not cock the shutter, M, Z, or whatever is the cock and adjust the time wheel setting. (its been a while since I played with one). Check here to see what is on the SK Grimes site about Ilex (compound)Dial set shutters. http://www.skgrimes.com/ilex/index.htm
If T and B are on the Dial then do not cock unless the shutter does not fire without cocking.
This should get you into the ballpark.
Charles
