Hi,

I recently acquired a pacemaker SG with a Kodak Ektar 127mm f/4.7 lens. I've only taken a few pictures with this setup so far, but I've noticed that on two of them with a bright light source, (one sun through a window, the other outside in the sun, but not in the frame) I'm getting what I think is a lot of flare.

Is this normal for this lens? If so, is there a suggested lens hood I should be using?

Thanks, Derek

Most any hood that you can adapt to the lens will be a benefit, I think based on my experiance, that most of the older single and non-coated lenses, are prone to flare in the right circumstances, with the older lenses, it is important to make sure you look and pay attention to the surrounding light sources if at all possible.

Again, a hood will help most any lens.

Dave

The easiest hood would be a Series VI adapter ring + a Series VI hood. This will allow you to use series filters as well. they shouldn't be expensive and you can find them on ebay.

Harder to find but a lot of fun is a Wollensak hood. This is a very well made hood with the added benefit being linked to the aperture lever. The f stops are displayed on the hood at the top. rotate the hood to stop the camera down!

A Wolly lenshood that lets you use it to change the aperature? SHADES of the Leitz VALOO! Sorry, I just could not resist that.

And if you have the Wolly shade, how about a picture of it since it sounds like such a neat gadget?

Here's a "Wolly" shade for your inspection.

Looks neat; I've never seen one and now I have something else to chase down.

That outfit looks pretty nice, too.
