Will this cover 5X7? And what is its reputation. It appears to be an economy lens, a triplet.

Thanks, Rich. A mental failure on my part to not list the max aperature, which is the f6.3 you mentioned.

It is in an older Copal, which struck me as rather strange. Evidently it is one of the last lenses made by Ilex. The shutter is original, as the scales are marked with the correct (odd) focal length and bear the annotation "lens made in USA". I got it from Midwest for about 150, which I thought was a good deal. I'll go ahead and modify the lens board on my Korona to try it out now that I know it will cover.

And, with your comment about Turner-Reich lenses, I was reminded that I have a TR triple convertable Anastigmat series II for 5X7. I pulled it out and it is even marked Gundlach, so I guess I'll have to make another board for the Korona to try it out.

Unless it's just a dog, I'll bet you'll like the Acutar. And for that price, who could complain!

You _forgot_ about a T&R convertible???? Well, if it means that little to you I think you should at least ship it off to me so it can have a good life where it will be appreciated!

I have no idea why, but there's something about T&R convertibles that I just love...

I had a Turner Reich convertable...came with my 8X10 Agfa Ansco back in 1969 (wish I still had that!). Can't remember the focal lengths but it
covered 8X10 with extreme movements at middle distances very nicely. Sharp enough, too, but that's big film.

Both the Ilex and the TR are now mounted up for my Korona 5X7 and will get a workout this weekend, weather permitting.

I really got excited about the TR covering 8X10 until I realized that mine specifies 5X7; oh well I still have my 8 1/2" WF Ektar to use if I ever find a cheap 8X10

The focal lengths are 7, 12, and 18 inches, so I might have a chance with two of them. All I need is a camera.

Just wanted to post this about the Ilex 215 paragon, I received my Kodak 2D 8x10 the other day and it covers with no problem and still allows the small amount of movement that the rear allows on this model.

I just saw this posting today. For the record, an Ilex Acutar is a six element plasmat design (basically a copy of a Symmar convertible). I had one of these lenses for 25 years and sold it on Ebay 3-4 months ago because I didn't use it anymore. It is actually a very sharp lens that yielded quite a few sharp images for me in the early 1980s (when I purchased it from W. D. Service and had it fitted to my Super Speed Graphic). I would never snub this lens and would be happy to use one again. However, I have too many lenses and too little time.
