Hi All,

I've been primarily shooting my 4x5 Crown Graflex with a 6x9 back, have had some issues with keeping the tripod mount secured but placing in the roll film back doesn't torque the camera too much. It seems that no matter how hard I screw in the arca swiss plate into the bottom mount, it will spin fairly easily.

This last weekend, I tried to take 4x5 shots of my sister and her husband at their wedding and struggled because each time I went to slide the film holder behind the ground glass the camera spun. I ended up just using the viewfinder to align.

lock tight on threads? ruberized doublestick tape under adapter plate?

I am looking for suggestions to keep the arca swiss plate firmly attached.


I've been loving shooting the graflex, here's a recent shot of a day lily, shot with 135mm schneider kreuznach xenar wide open at 4.7 . this is a preliminary cell phone scan of negative lit up by an ipad so there should be some more detail left to get out of it.

I assume that you're using a quick release plate and the tripod socket on the camera is secure to the body.
If this assumption is correct then a piece of sheet rubber 1/8 inch thick cut to fit plate to camera contact area should hold it securely. 1/16 may work also.

You are correct, I am talking about the quick release plate for the tripod.

Thank you for the advice, I've got to track down some material like that, I think I have some rubber gasket material left over from making some gaskets for and old Mercury 2 stroke outboard motor from the 50's that I could not find parts for.

Hardware store should have suitable material. Look in plumbing supplies.

I use a quick release plate with a Manfrotto medium geared head on tripod for my Century Graphic. The plate surface is covered with a cork layer. It hasn't slipped yet.
