a friend just gave me his entire collection of graflex and large format gear.

i have no idea what it's worth or what to do with it.

i am going to keep and use the crown graphic, but the speed graphic is too heavy for me.

each one came in its own case with corresponding graflites and cords and film holders, even new bulbs still in packaging, reflectors, all kinds of odd manuals...

any advice?

sell them on ebay. take a look at our site, do a search for "speed Graphic" matching your camera to past auctions. This way youll get an idea of what you have and what it will sell for.

Or you could just give it to me.

Since you're going to keep and use the Crown Graphic, hold off selling anything until you learn more about the Crown. You may find that you will keep most of the items listed. Maybe even the Speed for tripod use.

P.S. I don't believe my Crown Graphic has changed much in dollar value in 30 years, now it would only be paid for with cheaper dollars. Want to make money, buy real estate!

Seriously, it sounds like you've got an instant collection that many of us would love to own. And if you have an interest in using the cameras, then keep it all, wait and see. Using Graphics is adictive and you might very soon regret getting rid of any part of them.

'Tis the season! Gift what you don't want to someone else who would use and appreciate it. Sure, a full kit could fetch $400 or so on eBay, but to paraphrase the commercial...

"4x5 Sheet Film, $25. Cable release, $20. Focusing cloth, $45. The Graflex camera to use them with, priceless..."

well, I really did want to give one of the kits away to someone who'd appreciate it.

but there really is just so much, I already have a minion that does my bidding most of the time.

I'd hate to have to train another...if you know what I mean, ok, so its me that needs the training...

I would seriously consider giving the speed and its acc to whomever helped me sort through this mess.

did I mention the 600mm lens? dern aerial lenses. it was even mounted onto a homemade 8x10 camera.

I mean what in sam hill am I supposed to do with this crazy stuff.

I use the crown quite often and have found that I don't need most of the things it came with.

ebay is ony successful if you know what stuff is.

I have boxes upon boxes of stuff, it would probably take a year just to figure it all out, and the fact that I have already had the stuff for 8 months.

It's a bit overwelming.

Anyone want a speed graphic?

A nice sharp 600mm lens on an 8x10 camera.

and your interests are in alt photo. Sound like a natural match!

Do you have/have access to a digital camera?

No I'm not. I just noticed that ariel's interests were alt photo and 90% of all alt photo is contact printing. Hence 8x10 or larger so she's got (what I think) would be a natural fit for her interests, she just may have to build some bicepts and tricepts hauling an 8x10 around the mountains of Virginia.

really, I just need a burro, and seeing as I am snowed in for the evening - looks like an early morning stroll is in order. i'll post a polaroid or two.

I like the miniature nature of 4x5 contact printing. It's intimate.

I still flirt with the idea of using an 8x10, but why should it end there. I could just as easily have an 11x14, hell why not a 20x24 polaroid. there are still 8 left right?

I must draw the line somewhere.

Plus I am 5'4" and weigh 100pds. Heavy cameras just aren't in the logistics.

ps - yes have a canon g2, have taken pictures of a few items. can email.
