My First Time

Andrew Montgomery

I write to you from Lil' Ole England to tell you that I recently acquired a very fine, '48 Pacemaker 23 Crown Graphic via eBay - how else? There was a roll of Fujichrome Provia in the roll film back that I reckon had lain dormant for about at least a decade but I exposed it, with interesting results. Yesterday, having rather inexpertly loaded the thing - I now realise that one has to wind the film to the start mark before setting the frame counter - I shot a roll of Fuji Neopan 400 down by the Thames, right where we live at Ham, between Kingston and Richmond. The attached picture is of my dear, lady wife Fleur. It's a straight scan @ 300dpi, on an Epson Perfection Photo 3170 (which I strongly endorse) and has not been PhotoShopped in any way. The six frames that I ended up with are extremely tightly grouped - overlapping in a couple of places - but as this did not afflict the ancient Provia I'm assuming that it's down to my bungled loading.

This really is a fabulous camera and 2"x 3" is a brilliant format. I look forward to many hours of fun with this thing, which is in quite incredible condition, fitted with Ektar lens. I must now shoot some colour, or color, even...

The photo of my 23 Pacemaker was taken with a 1957 Russian Kiev IIa that I've recently had renovated, taken from an enlarged section of a 35mm negative shot on Fuji Neopan 1600.
